I'm a newbie to airsoft, only about 6 games under my belt, only 2 are not historical based. I'm a dabbler who prefers the game play, the structure of the scenarios and enjoys the collecting. WW2, Nam and 'normal' in that order of preference. Being an old school role player (table top and live action) it just appeals to that little part of me (and it helps that I'm used to taking my hits 
).

Strange. No votes for "I'm a kit collector", yet, time and time again, we see people moaning they can't afford to get to games, yet posting about spunking £300 or so on some obscure bit of kit 
, or discussions about pacific games and the kit required for something that's unlikely to happen any time soon, if ever 
, or just using the forum to sell kit.
It's also surprising that, with several hundred forum members, there are so few votes and events are still booking slowly for all organisers. Given the sheer number of games this year, you'd have thought that there's something for everyone! WW2 airsoft seems to have split into several "factions", with people limiting themselves to one game style or loadout, which is quite sad, as they're depriving themselves of new experiences, for the sake of trying to be big fish in little ponds and dragging new players down that blinkered route with them.

I'm not in the slightest bit surprised and the poll just confirms everything we already know. WW2 events are attended by a very few people, most forum users are just interested in kit or guns (our highest ever users online was 963 on Fri 13. Mar 2009 - the day we announced the Viva Sten to the world. There is no way those were 963 players!).
Generally speaking there are 2 guests for every 1 registered forum member. And of the 684 current forum members (those who have logged on at sometime in the past year) so of those 2,000 forum visitors I'd hazard a guess that only 100 have ever been to a UK WW2 event.
As for being kit collectors, of course no one would admit to that on a forum that promotes game attendance - indeed many people would be in denial! It is curious that this parallels normal airsofter behaviour where kit is paramount, never have enough bits and bobs, until the day they realise it was only the kit that attracted them and that airsoft is boring and promptly sell up and move on to another hobby (or girlfriend/house/car/baby/life). Couple this in with the normal airsoft three year turnover of players and WW2 airsoft will always be a small group of active players.
Now, here an interesting thing. I'd say in the reenacting world there are many, many more active participants than users of forums. Quite the opposite for WW2 airsoft where it is pretty much a prerequisite that you are a forum user. What can we conclude from this? Perhaps it is that the reeacting world is established and relatively unchanging - you just do what you have always done or what your group tells you to do. And that WW2 airsoft is new and rapidly changing and still has an audience with plenty to talk about.
Anyway, the message is clear. The WW2 scene will fizzle out unless YOU make the effort to go to your first event. WW2 players are a breed apart - friendly to a man and woman, good humoured, mature and generous. Car share is offered, kit is loaned. The calendar is full of events to the end of the year. Get yourself booked onto one. Any of them!

I freely admit to being on this forum becuase i'm interested in the kit - My team and I depict mercenaries from the mid 1960's; the crossover in kit and weapons is huge, and it's useful being able to look stuff up here.
Also, I'm interested in Pacific games, rather than NWE (save the air war, which doesn't fit into airsoft too well sadly. Airsoft Spitfire anyone?) - I know it's unlikely one will happen in the near future, but I hope the information i've posted will be useful if and when one does get organised.
Having said that, i'm very close to a small site that does second world war games (cool under fire), and we're planning to attend their next ww2 event or so. Our kit isn't perfect, but we will be making a big effort, at least not to look out of place.

i voted yes, but like others here, time is the biggest problem for me.
moneys not an issue as far as games go , i just bung it on the plastic if im short,
but i work in a company with only three men, and im under more pressure at work, im doing monday to saturday in every second week, and the wifes being used more at weekends as shes a student on placements and therfore classed as fair game for all the shit weekend shifts.
when we do get any time together, is usually doing something with the kids, ive an endless amount of D I Y to do and at the very bottom of the list comes my airsoft 
its got so bad recently im having to attend the odd open day just to keep the interest, and justify the money spent on kit thats just sat in the back room.
overnight games are nigh on impossible for me now, and i really miss the CIA socials (though im pushing hard to get to the october CIA game)
so this year im looking at making..........................

4/5th september , sealion , off due to wife and kids starting uni/school (busyest week of the year for us)
2/3 october , devils hill, 80% sure so far, ive booked the time off work, and im asking everone i know about childcare, just in case wife gets spannered for a shift at work
so overall its a shitty year for me, but i loved the borzyn loop (one of the best ive been to personally), and im still aqquireing russain kit, for the next russain game that ill be able to attend.

i get to games as often as i can I still enjoy open day, but the ww2 days are a very special treat for me.
i always wanted to do ww2 ever since i started airsoft, I always feel its like its being in a war movie.
the skills and knowledge ive acquired on this forum have actually made me a better player all round.
Of course with the ups and downs of life and work you can never get to all the games you want to.... I just find that sometimes i have to just make the effort.
Im also finding that i am consolidating my kit more and more so its really functional.... I am really trying to stop turning up at events with too much kit....

Not sure if this is for CiA events only but I do attend every ww2 game I can here in lil ol' Denmark and would love to attend CiA ones to if only I was able to get my boomsticks with me.
Other people who have come over to a UK game have found our members very accomodating with the loan of weapons and kit. I'm sure it would be the same if you decided to make the trip. Most of us have a spare gun or two we'd be happy to let you use.

Indeed we had three chaps from Denmark over for PBIs operation Freshman earlier this year and while they all got their own AEGS over in the end we had a massive suplus of guns and kit folk had offered to loan out!

Ironically, I'll be going to more this year, than for the last 2 years put together! Just worked it out that I'll have done at least 7 events in 2010 by the end of it! As much as I enjoy organising, it's still also nice to get out there and support other peoples' events too (far less work involved in doing that as well!).

I imagine a lot of the registered members just use the forums as a reference point for kit and weapons, so don't even read the GD forum.
I know I've been registered on the pozzi forum for over 3 years, have a grand total of 5 posts over there and wouldn't even think about entering conversations on their GD forum.
